The Human Capital Management Unit at University Human Resources has received several inquiries concerning the automatic termination of unused employee records, especially student job records. The following information is provided to give context for Preparers and Approvers who are affected by this process.
On February 27, 2013 University Human Resources (UHR) announced that termination of non-active employee job records would begin. During the twenty-one months since that first announcement, UHR has system-terminated more than 21,000 records of employees, in all job classes, who have not been paid for an extended period of time.
Due to a university-wide system upgrade of the RS2 access system servers, all carding activity in RUconnection Card office locations will need to be suspended Thursday, Dec 4th at 4 PM, and all day on Friday, December 5th. Normal operations should resume on Monday, December 8th. User accounts will be locked, and no type of card (including replacements) will be able to be produced during this timeframe.
Pursuant to Department of Labor and Workforce Development Legislation N.J.S.A. 34:11-56a, which passed in 2013, the State conducts an annual review of the minimum wage to ensure that it keeps pace with the rate of inflation. Please be advised that, as a result, the NJ minimum wage will increase to $8.38 per hour, effective January 1, 2015. Departments do not need to submit ad hoc salary requests to increase employees to the new minimum. University Human Resources will be processing a mass hourly rate update for all hourly students and temporary employees who are currently below the new minimum. This mass update will take place on December 12, 2014. You will receive workflow notifications for your employees; however, no additional action is needed.
